Training for pharmacy assistants: partnership between the Faculty of Pharmacy at UM6SS and Laprophan Laboratories

In partnership with Laboratoires Laprophan and for the first time in Morocco, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences is launching a continuing education program in practical skills for pharmacy assistants benefiting 400 pharmacy aides from the Kingdom.

This certifying training is provided by specialists: university professors in pharmacy and medicine as well as experts in communication sciences, marketing, and management. Its aim is to upgrade the knowledge of pharmacy aides and create added value regarding their profession.

The role of the pharmacy aide, under the responsibility and supervision of the pharmacist, involves advising patients on medication use as well as directing them to health facilities for appropriate care. They are also responsible for managing health product stocks and simultaneously handling administrative tasks (order tracking, contact with wholesalers, etc.). Additionally, they have a commercial and advisory function as they work closely with clients from all backgrounds, offering personal advice and selling parapharmaceutical products (creams, treatments).

"It is important to remember that a good pharmacy aide must know how to establish contacts with the outside, listen, and advise. They must possess in-depth knowledge and skills to provide quality advice, as well as handle and dispense health products correctly under the pharmacist's responsibility," stated Professor Samir Ahid, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UM6SS.

For his part, Dr. Othmane Boumaalif, Medical Director of Laboratoires LAPROPHAN, specified that "this training will equip participants to dispense medication in accordance with current regulations and best practices, and to manage, under the supervision of the pharmacist, various situations of interaction with other health professionals, particularly physicians."

It is with this objective that this training was created. The topics covered will address both the proper use of medication and other health products such as the dispensing of antibiotics and oligotherapy in pharmacies, advice in pharmacies in cases of fever and pain, as well as regulatory, managerial, communication, and marketing aspects such as merchandising and customer loyalty.
